Multiple realities exist – because reality is a perspective. The Volta area in the north of the city of Basel is in a transition phase. With the temporary use of “Lysa Büchels Garten”, the transformation of the Volta Nord industrial area into a residential area with gastronomic, cultural and sports facilities is launched. The “Portal of Parallel” is a temporary artistic intervention in public space to set a statement about the presence of visual arts in the new district and thus also to open a discussion on urban development and art. The sculpture is open to the public at all times and allows the public to engage with contemporary art in an exploratory and active way. The sculpture can be experienced in a new way through the accessibility and usability. It removes barriers for exhibition locations and creates new intersections for the planned area development. A project by Simone Steinegger & St. Poz in cooperation with the Verein Skateboardkultur and built with We thank the Kunstkredit Basel Stadt, the Christoph Merian Stiftung and the Bürgergemeinde Basel Stadt and other sponsors for their recognition and generous support.
